On further consideration I think it
well to abolish the post of Senior Executive Engineer £630
£660 by £30 triennially, with Duty Pay of £60 and to substitute
another post of First Grade Executive Engineer £570

£630 by
£30 triennially, with Duty Pay of £60. The rights of the
present Senior Executive Engineer, Mr. C. H. Gale, are preserv

of £660.

I also desire to raise the maximum of an
Assistant Engineer from £440 to £450. The present maximum
(without Duty Pay) is £480.

After very careful consideration I am
of opinion that the eight Assistant Engineerships should be
divided into two grades with £50 and £40 Duty Pay respectively,
and that the increments for both grades should be of £10
annually instead of £30 triennially. All of the Assistant
Engineers have complained of the terms offered to them and I
am satisfied that the modifications now suggested are justified
by the reduction in maximum pensionable pay from £480 to £450.
